Targa Rallies were reborn in Australia nearly two decades ago in the spirit of the original Targa Florio which began in Italy more than a century ago.

Today in Australia and New Zealand these tarmac rallies or races are held on closed public roads with a myriad of makes and models, shapes and sizes and loosely divided into Classic to Modern.

It’s a form of racing that attracts everyone from the novice to the retired professional racers. Six times Bathurst winner Jim Richards is possibly the most successful tarmac winner to date.

It’s not for the faint hearted though… it’s fast and furious and often unforgiving.
